Self Help Groups encouraged in Sikkim

Gangtok,august2: A day long programme of Self Help Groups was held at Aaho-Chota Singtam, East Sikkim, with women participants from four local SHG’s on September 1. The programme was organized by Rural Management & Development Department and Sikkim Rural Development Agency (SRDA).
Mr. Beg Bahadur Rai, area MLA was chief guest of the programme which was attended by S.D. Dhakal, Project Officer SRDA, Raju Giri, Resource Person, departmental officials, Zilla Panchayats, local Panchayats and villagers.
Mr. Rai in his address told the people to work forming active SHG’s. Sharing his experience about SHG’s of different states in his recent tour he said, SHG’s in Madhya Pradesh have made themselves self reliant. They are having big finance through sales of their produces. Women in different parts of the country have taken themselves to a great height through joint effort. It can only be possible by working together in the form of SHG’s, he emphasized.
Mr. Dhakal during his interaction with participants told the villagers that the state government is providing financial aids for dairy farming, poultry, horticulture and floriculture. Department will provide expertise for construction of poly cow shed. A team of officials of RMDD will visit villages of North district soon, the Project Director said.
