Press Club of Sikkim observes 5th Foundation day

Journalist Ashok Chatterjee awarded with Kanchenjuga Kalam Puraskar
Gangtok: The Press Club of Sikkim observed 5th Foundation in a function organised today to mark the occasion in the premises of Press Club of Sikkim, Gangtok. On the occasion, Minister Shri Somnath Poudyal was the Chief guest while Shri C.B. Karki, MLA was the guest of honour. Shri Ashok Chatterjee, a senior journalist was awarded with Kanchenjunga journalism award which was instituted in 2005 by Press Club of Sikkim. On the occasion, Shri Pranaya Lamichaney, a senior journalist and Kabita Sharma, a young and promising journalist working in Nayuma Channel were too given felicitation by the club.
While addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Shri Poudyal lauded the role of media to educate and inform the people in right direction and urged the media to play a constructive role in the democracy. He said that Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling is very much concerned for the development of media in the State and because of him, there is free and fair democratic atmosphere is possible here for the fourth estate. He said that he will contribute the books required for the library of Press Club.
Shri C.D. Rai, the President of Press Club highlighted the aims and objective of the club, while Shri Bhim Rawat, General Secretary gave welcome speech. On the occasion, The award winner Shri Ashok Chatterjee,Shri Vinay Raj Tiwari, a senior correspondent, Shri Pranay Lamichaney, Shri Kabita Sharma too addressed the meeting. The citation and introductory of notes were presented by working President, Shri Amit Patro, Joint Secretary Shri Suman Gajmer and Vice President Hemlatta Gurung.
