Sikkim Tourism Dept to celebrate World Tourism Day at Saramsa



GANGTOK, September 19: The State Tourism Department is celebrating the World Tourism Day at Saramsa Garden on September 27 with the theme ‘Tourism celebrating diversity’ with the highlight on the importance of tourism and globalization.


A press release issued by Nirmala Rasaily, Deputy Director (I&P) informs that the programme will include conference on village and wellness tourism, cultural programme, traditional food stalls and local handicraft stalls. This will encourage the people from all over the State to showcase their products, she said.

Felicitations and awards of excellence will also be conferred to the stake holders and people involved in tourism promotion in the State, it is informed.

The State Tourism Minister Bhim Dhungel will be present on the occasion as the chief guest.

World Tourism Day was established in the 3rd Session of the General Assembly of World Tourism Organization in 1980 especially to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economical values.
