Calcutta Port Trust wins Sikkim Governor's Gold Cup


Gangtok,September21: Port Trust Sports Club (PTSC), Kolkata, won the trophy of 31st All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2009 defeating BNR, Kolkata, by one nil on Monday at Palzor Stadium.


The solitary goal was scored by Ayan Chowdhury Jsy no. 9 in 55th minute of the match. He was the scorer of PTSC throughout tournament.

In the final, both teams were equal. But most of the public were cheering BNR team and expected its striker Jsy no. 10 Baba Tunde to score and win the match for his team. But unfortunately he was shown red card by the referee Biplab Poddar in 59th minute for an altercation. Another red card was given to Rajib Ekka of PTSC and total 7 yellow cards were shown by referee in the final match.

In absence of Baba Tunde, BNR missed its striker who is on record of Governor’s Gold Cup as the fastest scorer (he scored in 13 second in quarter final against Tata Football Academy) and also the highest scorer in this year’s tournament.

Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling gave the winner and runners-up trophy. Mr. N K Pradhan, Minister Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. D B Thapa, Minster UD & HD, Mr. Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, Minister Power, Mr. Dorjee Namgyal, MLA, Gangtok, Mr. Bimal Dawari, Zilla Upadakshya, East District, Mr. Tempo Bhutia, President, Mr. B K Roka, Working President, Mr. Menla Ethanpa, General Secretary of SFA and other members of SFA were present. Tourus of local Denzong Boys Club was man of the tournament, Henry (10) of PTSC was man of the match, Baba Tunde of BNR highest scorer (total 6 goals in the tournament) and Fairplay team award of the tournament went to Faria Strikers, Goa.
