photo: Law Minister & Soreng MLA R.B.SubbaGangtok,October 05: The State election Commission today issued an order removing Sonam Tshering Tamang as Returning Officer for the Soreng Sub division after it received written complaint by way of Memorandum from Opposition parties such as Sikkim Congress, BJP, SHRP, CPI-M that Mr.Tamang as returning officer has accepted withdrawal forms on the day of scrutiny itself although the last date of withdrawal of the nomination forms for the ongoing Panchayat elections has been fixed on October5.
The State Election Commission has further ordered shri B.B.Subba from South District Administration office to take over the duties and functions of Returning Officer in the Soreng, in addition to his present responsibilities.
Earlier there were some reports of misuse of government vehicle by Soreng MLA R.B.Subba for electioneering in Panchayat election campaign by Opposition parties although same was categorically refuted by Sikkim Democratic Front by issuing a denial to the effect and informing that Law Minister was using vehicle to conduct official works at Soreng instead of election campaign as alleged by Opposition members.
