Sikkim Chief Secretary reviews preparation for Panchayat Elections


Gangtok,October8: The Sikkim Chief Secretary N.D.Chingapa has convened a meeting of all officers associated with the upcoming Panchayat elections in state scheduled to be held on October 26 in Conference Hall of Rural Management & Development Department, Tashiling Secretariat ,Gangtok today. The meeting was attended by Director General of Police, Principal Secretary, Home Department,Commissioner-cum -Secretary,Rural Management & Development Department, Secretary, State Election Commission, all District Collectors ,all District Superintendents of Police and other officials of Police, Home & State Election Commission.
The Meeting was also attended by all the four District Collectors who are designated as Returning Officers in their respective districts. The Chief Secretary expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements made & has directed all officers and government employees to adhere to the guidelines issued by State Election Commission in context of matters pertaining to ensuing grass-root level rural elections being held later this month. The CS also strongly advised officers to maintain transparency in their dealings and decisions to ensure a free and fair poll in state and strictly follow all the guidelines issued by Election Commission of Sikkim.

The meeting also reviewed preparedness of concerned departments to maintain law and order during panchayat elections as well as precautionary measures being undertaken to hold a peaceful poll in areas considered as sensitive and called up all concerned to be more vigilant.
