CONGRESS SURVEYS SIKKIM MANPAL HOSPITAL

CONGRESS SURVEYS CRH; VOICES CONCERNS OVER STATE-RUN PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRES

GANGTOK: The Chairman of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) Grievance Cell, SK Bardewa voiced mixed reactions following an inspection of the Central Referral Hospital at 6th Mile Tadong here today.
According to a press release, the chairman undertook the inspection after it “received general complaints from people about the state of treatment provided by the Hospital.
Random sample and survey at the Hospital revealed that foods being supplied to the patients were generally of good quality and treatment criterion methodology and findings were found at satisfactory level, Mr. Bardewa said in the press release.
However, the Congress has pointed out a number of problems faced by the general public. “All signboards are in English language which should be in a common language, in simple Nepali with a PRO deputed in each floor for proper guidance and care of the patients,” he said. “The doctor and nurses ratio seem to be on a lower side as very few nurses were found taking care of the patients. The liftman was not on duty and the Hospital premises should be cleaner. However, there was marked improvement in the treatment of patients,” Mr Bardewa said.
“It would be wonderful if the CRH provided a full-fledged library for patients and Internet service and in-house PRO,” he said.
The Congress further criticized the state of the Government-run Primary Health Centres in the State. “The general conditions of the PHCs are reported to be in a very bad condition with poor attendance of the doctors. During the recent visit of the Congress leaders to West Sikkim, all the PHCs lack necessary medical facilities,” the press release read.
