The opposition political parties in its meeting on 24 April reportedly resolved to call for the Governor’s resignation at his own moral ground, if their assertions are not acted upon by the latter within 72 hours
GANGTOK, April 25: Barely after the state government’s Direct Complaint Case against six state Congress members and proprietor of a Siliguri based press, the opposition political parties in the state on 24 April in a joint footing decided to request the Governor V Rama Rao to act on the different charges leveled by the oppositions.
The Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, Sikkim state Bharatiya Janata Party, Sikkim state CPI(M), Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad party and the Sikkim Gorkha Prajatantrik Party in its meeting on 24 April reportedly resolved to call for the Governor’s resignation at his own moral ground, if their assertions are not acted upon by the latter within 72 hours.
The opposition political parties of the state, in a recent press statement informed of its decision of appealing before the Governor to take action on the 101 allegations and 36 scams contained in the SPCC publication ‘Congress Sandesh – Sikkim Ma Burmaloot’ which the Governor has not disputed except one scam (for which the state government filed a defamation case on behalf of the Governor) by ordering CBI enquiry within 72 hours on the petition of 5 opposition political parties.
Taking in the alleged threat on opposition parties and its leaders, the opposition parties also called for the Governor’s attention on the questionable Nepal nationality of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, besides the case of counterfeit currency.
The oppositions’ petition also includes the Governor’s probe into the petition submitted by the Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad Party on the possible arms and ammunition import in the state giving the possible location and other details by the ruling party by the CBI or other agency excluding the state machinery within 72 hours.
The oppositions also decided to request the Governor to take action on the petition submitted by state Bharatiya Janata Party by compelling the state government to implement the reservation pattern as laid down by the Supreme Court with a ceiling of 50% or less to get the same passed and inserted in the ninth schedule of the Constitution forthwith.
The opposition amalgamation in its press statement also clarified that in case of inactions against the allegations, will be writing to the President of India with copies to the Prime Minister of India, UPA Chairperson, President to Bharatiya Janata Party and General Secretary to CPI (M) at New Delhi for the removal of the Governor in view of the security of this sensitive border state
