MILAN SHARMA WINS SWAR SIKKIM


RAVANGLA, April 13: Amid musical extravaganza of Swar Sikkim 2007 grand finale, tourist festival Rabong Discovered came to a close today in hands with the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling – unveiled 8 April by Ms Tika Maya Chamling, wife of the Chief Minister.
In an apposite milieu over Chi-dzo Lake accompanied by bustling crowd of locals, domestic and foreign tourists, Swar Sikkim 2007 culminated in a neck-to-neck contest among the ten finalists and Milan Sharma of Rongli (East Sikkim) stealing the show as the best voice of Sikkim.
The second place in Swar Sikkim was secured by Manoj Rai and Anita Moktan in the third position. The winners, apart from gift hampers from the sponsors were also given away with cash prizes of Rs 25, 000 for the winner, Rs 20,000 for the runners up and Rs 15,000 for the third prize winner.
The SMS Swar Sikkim award was however secured by Sewang Hingmang of Rhenok, followed by Pawan Rai and Sanju Hang Subba in the second and third positions, respectively. All the ten finalists of Swar Sikkim 2007 were also rewarded with cash prizes of Rs 10,000 each.
The four judges who apparently had a tough time in identifying the best voice today also had an informal interaction with the contestants on 12 April at Hotel New Dzongri, Ravangla wherein the finalists were asked to perform according to the judges’ discretion. In the finals, the ten contestants were made to sing two songs – one on slow and the other on fast numbers.
The four eminent judges were Dharma Bhushan Gazmer, Deputy Secretary to Department of Culture & Heritage, Deoraj Sharma, Teacher of Tadong School, Gangtok, Dushyant Pariyar, Under Secretary to AATI Department and Himalayan Idol runners up Sonam Doma Bhutia.
Speaking to Sikkim Express today Dharma Bhushan Gazmer said, “We are proud to discover the best musical talents of Sikkim and have also groomed them for better performances as well”. He also informed that the finalists were offered vocal training, gesture instructions and highlighting of prospects in music.
The chief guest of the day, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling in his accolade to the singing talents invited the finalists to carry on with the good work. Speaking before a lively audience here today, Chamling also expressed his happiness over the birth of the new concept ‘Swar Sikkim’ thereby pointing to several other hidden talents of the state called for a need for reslisation of their talents.
Adjudging Swar Sikkim akin to capacity building in off beat concept, the Chief Minister also expressed his appreciation for area MLA and minister for UD&HD, DD Bhutia for the innovative initiative. The day also marked an unexpected crowd seen more attracted towards stalls of traditional cuisines and handicraft of North Eastern states.
