Gangtok Ridge Road Make-Over









T he Chief Minister Dr.Pawan Chamling who went on an inspection mode of Ridge Road near WhiteHall along with a high level team of Chief Secretary,heads of various departments and his government and party dignitaries about a forth-night ago to give shape to its beautification especially in view of international flowershow scheduled for 2008 and his directions as to how the Ridge Road can be turned into more attractive tourist destination as well as important point within Gangtok are finally beginning to take shape into various department initiatives such as ground tunnel from Bhanupath near Dukhi Pan Dokan to connect Tathangchen Road by the Roads & Bridges,installations of two new water fountains below Samman Bhawan by Forest Department, Shiftingto Sports & Youth Affairs Department office to Open a Center on line of Indian Habitat Center,New Delhi ,Replacement of barbed wire fencing around while hall by a more appropriate fencing to enhance its beautification and more bamboo plantations by Forest Department to cover exposed water pipes into surroundings.
To futher follow up the matter, Additional chief Secretary T.T. Dorjee has been directed to convene a meeting with these departments and to finalise and submit all above proposals for approval from Government at earliest to begin concrete work for makeover of Ridge Road.

The plying of vehicles has been already banned along Ridge Park Road as Agriculture Department gets into gear of developing the area. However, State Congress has in its party meeting has demanded that order to halt traffic on Ridge Road should be revoked by Government into general public interests.
