ECOLOGY & EXPLOSION EARNS SHRP'S CONCERN

GANGTOK, April 24: With its Jan Chetna Abhiyan taking inroads into every corner of the state, the Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad (SHRP) party also expressed its animosity over the state government’s invitation to too many hydel power projects in Sikkim.
Pointing adverse effects on the environment, the party held that Sikkim is fast loosing its charms due to tremendous disturbances in the ecology – affected by the hydel projects. The party also alleged that there has been an uneven payment to the land owners whose lands were acquired by the state government.
The Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad party also condemned the unprecedented explosion that shook Pani House locality early morning today. The SHRP in an emergency meeting later today condemned the incident and went as much to demand a CBI enquiry over the incident.
A recent press note of the party adds that the SHRP had earlier submitted a memorandum to His Excellency, the Governor V Rama Rao of such disturbing incidents in the peaceful Himalayan state. However, the party also estimated that if appropriate steps are not taken immediate, more such incidents are possible in near future.
