SECURITY BEEFED UP IN GANGTOK


Gangtok: Sikkim Police has prepared its security arrangement for the North-East Council Meet on Tourism to be held here at Gangtok on 27th and 28th April which is expected to be attended by important dignitaries from the Center as well as the North East states.
Governors, Chief Ministers, Tourism Ministers, Chief Secretaries of all the north eastern states are expected to arrive here for the Conference. Besides, Union Ministers including Mani Shankar Aiyer and Ambika Soni are also scheduled to attend the meet.
With several of the VVIPs slotted in “Z” category security, Sikkim Police is not taking any chances and is deploying 5 companies of Sikkim Armed Police and also the IRBn; besides the elite commandos from the STF are also to be deployed informs DIG Range A. Sachdeva.
There will also be plain clothesmen with automatic weapons.Furthermore, there will be personnel deployed on the rooftops along the routes taken by the VVIPs.
The public has been requested to bear with the Police arrangements,especially between 9am to 11am on 27 and 28th April when the main roads of the town will be out of bounds for short intermittent periods.The police has already begun verifying the antecedents of people checking into local hotels especially involving the visitors from north-eastern states.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Division of Sikkim Police will amend on the existing traffic system consecutively for two days from 27 April owing to daily commutation by these dignitaries from their place of stay at Hotel Norkhil to Chintan Bhawan (venue for the conference).
The Traffic Police has decided to restrain the plying of vehicles along the Kazi Road and MG Marg every day from 9 am to 11 am, at a time when the dignitaries will commute to and fro from Hotel Norkhil to Chintan Bhawan
