Sikkim CM Chamling inaugurated Block Administrative Centre

Pakyong,Nov14 : Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling on Friday, November 13, inaugurated Block Administrative Centre at Parakha, 13 kilometers from Pakyong. Minister RMDD Mr. CB Karki, Area MLA Mr. Laxuman Lepcha, Minister of Forest and Tourism Mr. Bhim Dhungel, Minister of Commerce & Industries Miss Neeru Sewa, Vice Chairman State Planning Commission Mr. Sanchaman Limboo, SDF party workers, zilla panchayats, gram panchayats, sub-divisional officers and large number of local people were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Chief Minister in his address urged the people of the area to take benefits of the BAC Office. He said, “The present SDF government believes in decentralization of power to the rural areas and it is one of the measures through which rural people may do their official work in their villages without any expense of time and money.” He said, the SDF government is making every effort to make all the poor people of Sikkim prosperous,
master, and producers for which the government has given many benefits and schemes but still the rural people in villages are poor due to the habits of taking benefits from the government for granted.
He urged the people “to think positive and work in unity” to make Sikkim progressive and peaceful. He said the present government wants to make the people of Sikkim skillful and hardworking like the people of China and Japan. In order to upgrade all the villages of Sikkim and the economic standard of its peoples he urged them to come forward with planning to work in dairy, horticulture, agriculture etc. The government will help them by providing the resources and technical advices, he assured.
He also announced opening Livelihood School in all the 32 constituencies of Sikkim for the dropouts, educated unemployed people which is first of its kind in the whole
Country. He said the world is facing unemployment and all cannot get government jobs but the present government is determined to create opportunities for the unemployed through which they can earn more than the employed people. He reminded the people about the Chief Minister’s Scholarship for the best of the rural students to study in best schools of the country and outside the country and urged the students to take benefits from it.
RMD Minister Mr. Karki, area MLA Mr. Lepcha and Secretary RMDD Mr. Anil Ganeriwal also addressed the people.
The Block Administrative Centre at Parakha is built at a cost of Rs.1.28 crore by the contractor Mr. Palden Thendup Bhutia of Development area Gangtok. The BAC Pakyong will be shifted to Parakha and will be operative within this month, informed the Block Development Officer, Pakyong, Mr. Shyam Pradhan. Before inaugurating the BAC Parakha, Chief Minister inaugurated a “Maney” of late Pathing Phulzong Rinpoche at Machong monastery.

Musical Night @ Pakyong

Pakyong,Nov12: Sangam Club Pakyong presented Live Musical nite here on 8th November evening for awareness of “AIDS and TOBACCO”. Renowned Singers from Nepal, Mrs. Kunti Moktan and Sugam Pokrel, presented their hit numbers. Chief guest of the program was Area MLA 21- Gnathong Machong, Mr. LM Lepcha. Others present included Chairman STCS Mr. Nima Theeng as guest of honor and SDM Pakyong Mrs. Roshni Rai as Special guest.
The audience were thrilled by the renderings of Mrs. Moktan when she presented hit Nepali folk songs like “Lali guras ajambari chap-chameli, jey bhaneyni huncha hajur ma ta nepali,” “Sun ko bhau cha suntala bariko”, “Mathi-mathi Sailungay ma Chauri dulauney lai” and others. Earlier she has performed many programs in Sikkim. But this was her first performance at Pakyong.
Sugam Pokrel also entertained the audience with his hit numbers like “Pheri teo din samjhana sakdina, “Mero Sansar themi nai hau” and Samhalincha Kahiley yo man”. The Victory Band from Kathmandu played musical instruments. A member of the band, Mr. Shrawan Dev Shrestra, also sang on the occasion.
The organizing committee has successfully conducted such musical program for the last five years

Leopard seen in urban Pakyong

PAKYONG, September 13: A leopard today morning prowled urban Pakyong in search of food finally pouncing upon a dog below the airport construction site.
A local resident, Kinzong Bhutia informed that the dog was killed and taken away by the leopard this morning and footprints of the big cat have been sighted at the spot where the dog was killed.
Nearby residents also corroborated Mr. Bhutia’s information.
It is suspected that the leopard had strayed into the urban area in search of food.

Pakyong Road in bad shape

Pakyong: Big potholes on the road at Pakyong Bazaar near Rhenock & Dikling taxi stand filled with water are the cause of woes for the people. Since last year, the pothole-scarred road is filled with water during rains. The peoples who have to go through this road have to walk very carefully as the water is splashed by passing vehicles often makeing clothes dirty and untidy.
The local people, including students, usually suffer on a Haat day when there are more commuters in the road. One shop owner in the locality, Mrs. Uma Tamang, says that such stagnant water may cause disease. “We want the concerned department to repair the bazaar road soon”, she says. The road, earlier maintained by Boarder Roads Organization, has been handed over to the State Public Works Department this year

Hot meal prog under ICDS launched

Pakyong: The first phase of “hot meal” programme under supplementary Nutrition in ICDS scheme was inaugurated here in 39 ICDS centers functional under Pakyong Rural project from Monday 17th August under social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, informs an official release.
Out of the 39 ICDS centers, 16 centers fall under Pakyong BAC, while 11 centers under Rhenock BAC, 3 centers under Duga BAC and 9 centers under Gangtok BAC. The inaugural functions were conducted in the respective three ICDS Centers which are Thekabong ICDS under Pakyong BAC, Pachey Kitney ICDS under Rhenock BAC and Setipool ICDS under Gangtok BAC. CDPO Pakyong Mrs. Yemini Pradhan, supervisor of Machong ICDS zone, Mrs. N. Pradhan, supervisor of Pakyong, Mr. Y. Lepcha and Mr. BK Subba, Zilla Panchayats, Ward Panchayats, local women, members of SHGs, Mahila Mandals, Mahila Swastha Sanghs, Anganwadi workers and helpers were present in the inaugural centers. On occasion, Mrs. Yemini Pradhan CDPO Pakyong sensitized the community members about the new program and ensured that the meal is prepared in proper kitchen sheds having adequate sanitation and safe drinking water so as to maintain hygienic conditions. Anganwadi workers and helpers were advised to maintain hygien in the center.
The preparation of hot meal will be done by the members of local Self Help Groups, Mahila Mandal, Mahila Swastha Sangh of the respective areas, the release said.

DSSS girls champion for second consecutive year

Pakyong,August15 : In the final of Independence Day Football Tournament 2009 for girls played here Friday, Dikling Senior Secondary School (DSSS) won against Linkey Secondary School (LSS) by 3-0 goals and became champion of the tournament.
Nim Lamu Sherpa of DSSS scored the first goal in the 23rd minute followed by Dhan Kumari Sharma of school who scored two goals in the 58th and 65th minute. DSSS received the champion trophy on 15th August, Independence Day celebration program at St. Xavier’s School ground. This is the consecutive second year that DSSS girls have become the champion of the football tournament in girls’ category
