West Bengal Minister charge uncalled for, says SDF

Gangtok: The Sikkim Democratic Front today described the charge of West Bengal minister for Urban Development Ashok Bhattacharya that the Government in Sikkim has failed to respect democratic rights of people of Sikkim as most unfortunate and unwarranted. Sikkim Democratic Party has always believed in implementing democracy in letter and spirit ever since it came in power. The statement of CPI-M leader is an attempt to weaken Sikkim 's peaceful character despite it being a border state.

Sikkim Democratic Front's spokesperson said it was unfortunate that the West Bengal Minister had chosen to drag the developmental projects in Sikkim into "an uncalled for controversy for furtherance of its agenda."

"Citizens in Sikkim are free to meet whoever they want and this should be seen in the context of our vibrant, open, transparent and democratic political system."
