3 Congress Supporters Arrested On Charges of Intent to Cause riot
Gangtok:The Sadar Police has arrested three persons under Section153 of the IPC along with section124 /5(11) in connection with the incident outside the SPCC (I) head office in development area when Congress members burnt an effigy of the Sikkim Governor.
The three arrested congress supporters arrested in late evening are Vikram,Namgyal Bhutia and Polo.
The Sikkim police has taken suo moto action on the basis of photographs taken on the spot which had identified the above mentioned persons.
The basis of the action on the part of the police is the fact that the Governor is a constitutional authority and is bound to act as per the law;apart from this ,the speeches that preceded the incident tantamount to coercing the government into their demands apart from being inflammatory and inciting the protesters,it is informed.
The administration ,it is informed, has taken the serious view of this following which under non-bailable sections arrests were made.
meanwhile , Sikkim Congress President NarBahadur Bhandari has termed arrests as 'illegal' and had declared a mass court arrest with no bail move,as a protest against the unconstitutional detention of the SPCC members.
