Gangtok:Tranquillity gripped the State yesterday as mortal remains of Sikkim's first Chief Minister Kazi Lhendup Dorjee Khangsarpa were consigned to the flames at the crematorium of Old Rumtek Monestry.
The Capital was closed yesterday with the business community abstaining from commercial activities as a mark of respect for the departed leader.
The streets wore a deserted look, with only essential services opened today. Only medical shops were opened throughout Gangtok.
There was limited traffic and shops with shutters down was the general picture of Sikkim on day of funeral of Kazi Sahib, even with government offices, educational institutions and all public sector undertakings remained closed to business being already declared a state holiday .
