GANGTOK, Aug 7: Twenty-one members of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, who were charged with burning the effigy of Governor Mr V Rama Rao, surrendered themselves before the police here today. It may be recalled that four Congress leaders were arrested today on same charges. "Mr Mingma Tshering Gystso, vice president of the SPCC, was among the 21 Congress members who surrendered today," the police, said, adding that efforts are on to arrest the lone Congress MLA of the state, Acharya Tshering Lama subject to few facts confirmation.
The Sikkim Police, however, arrested only 21 persons today in response to the court arrest. They were Major T Gyatso, DB Basnet, Aden Tshering Lepcha, Ganesh Sharma, Ravi Subba, Nima Wangchuk Bhutia, Sangey Bhutia, Tshering Thendup, Karma Chudup Lepcha, Nima Sherpa, Damber Singh Chettri, Jagat Bahadur Chauhan, Shaker Chettri, Nimesh Chettri, Norbu Pintso Bhutia, Sonam Tshering Bhutia, Bhuwan Darnal, Tika Ram Chauhan, Chopel Bhutia, Harish Chandra and Dhan Bahadur Chauh
Rest of the supporters including Dawa Lhamu Targian (72) (Woman Whip President), Durga Devi Darjee (73), Bhim Shila Rai (32), Prem Kit Lepcha (30) and Chindi Bhutia (60) were excluded from arrest by the Sikkim Police on grounds of health problem.

Acharya Tshering Lama said that the SPCC has already sent the letter to the party High Command in New Delhi following the court arrest.
Superintendent of Police, MS Tuli stated that 21 people were arrested by Sikkim Police and in their statements they said that they were also involved in burning of the Governor’s effigy.
All the supporters, including the first four persons arrested are booked under section 147/153/153-A/124/124-A/511 for rioting, want only giving provocation with intent to cause riot if rioting be committed, promoting enmity between classes, assaulting President, Governor, with intent to compel or restrain the exercise of any lawful power, sedition and attempting to commit offence punishable with imprisonment fro life or imprisonment and in such attempt doing any act towards the commission of an offence of the Indian penal Code.
“If there is no evidence against the arrested people, they will be let free,” the SP said.
He also clarified that there is no evidence against the Sangha MLA to arrest him. “If he is willing to join in the court arrest, then he needs to seek permission from the Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative for further action,” he added.
