Gangtok:Power was restored to much of areas of Gangtok shortly before the Saturday episode of Indian Idol 3 featuring Prashant Tamang started on Sony Television after a roughly twelve hours blackout left Gangtokian without electricity through out the day and much part of Saturday evening following incessant rain of last night.Temporary power outages are already a fact of life for people here although Many believe situation would change in case Sikkim become energy surplus state as envisioned by hydroelectric projects policy of Government.
The outage affected the "entire business and commercial areas and all residential areas of Gangtok including its suburbs." Situation can be described as a "a large breakdown ... a complete blackout."
Power was reestablished in most of the area just before the start of Indian idol Saturday episode and for a little while around 7 pm.The electric power supply in Gangtok, obtained mainly from Chukha Hydroelectric Power Project, Bhutan.
Today's black-out resulted following the breakdown in the Lagyap Hydel Project
