CHANDMARI THREATENED BY GANESH-TOK LANDSLIDES

Gangtok:The continuous torrential rains are causing havoc in Gangtok and its surrounding areas. Exactly a month after the beginning of AmdoGolai landslides on June 12, another episode of similar nature is being replayed on July 12 when landslides have hit the peripheral areas of Ganesh Tok and put the houses located below Upper Chandmari and putting at risk lives of residents who are being left with no option but to evacuate and move to safer places as the heavy rains are making situation more worse and putting matters at dangerous level as four landslides triggered by rain not only poses a grave danger to Shrine itself but also threatened to wash away the retaining walls below the Shrine.

Live witnesses to event reports the frailness of Mountain where Ganesh Temple stands as Nature's fury indiscriminately poses a grave danger to man-made constructions in the area.
