Sikkim Celebrates Its State Day Today

Gangtok, 16 May: The 33rd State Day of Sikkim is being celebrated today all over Sikkim.The official celebration function was held from 10 A.M.onwards at Chintan Bhawan,Gangtok and was attended by the His Excellence Governor of Sikkim V Rama Rao and Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling,Chief Secretary,Cabinet Ministers, Heads of Departments,other government officials and other local dignitaries.

The function was marked with the welcome address by the Chief Secretary,followed by the patriotic songs performance by school children and release of two books on the public speeches of Chief Minister Dr.Chamling and' A Compendium of Sikkim Value Added Tax' by Manoj Rai, Asst. Comm.IT&CT Department along with the much awaited State Awards presentations. Nine personalities from different fields such as art,journalism,singing,painting were conferred State Awards consisting of a certificate of appreciation and Rs.25,000/-in cash. Awardees included Nirmal Mangar of Sikkim Express & Sarika Atreya of Hindu from field of journalism and Bhanu Gurung in singing,Shri Pravin Rai Jumeli in literature etc.

The occasion also greeted with the written message of Governor who called upon youths to work harder for making Sikkim a model state,"since becoming an integral part of our great nation India, Sikkim has seen considerable advancement in all fields .

Chief Minister Dr. Chamling in his speech displayed his displeasure to opposition antics and said there is no one to challenge Pawan Chamling and Pawan Chamling cannot be defeated with lies, rumours, conspiracy but only way to defeat Pawan Chamling is by way of building a better political alternative with programmes and better welfare of people in villages of Sikkim but not by baseless allegations and tactics. Dr. Chamling called upon government officers to be their best and do serve people best in duties they are entrusted upon with.He further said that only those officers and employees will be given promotion on their better performance now onwards. he reiterated his commitment to social security, empowerment of the underprivileged and also said- May 16 is a very important day in the history of Sikkim.The day is marked with the fulfillment of the long struggle of the people of the State to become masters of their own destiny by acquiring the status of a full democracy in joining the political,economic and social mainstream of the Indian Union. And Today onwards Pawan Chamling will not speak but his actions will. Earlier, the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, Advisors Shri B.B.Goorong and Shri S.M. Limboo lighted the lamp and the function was started.
National anthem was presented by Sikkim Police Band on the occasion.
