Gaon Mukhi Jan Chetna Aviyan in Sikkim

GANGTOK, May 13: The ongoing Gaon Mukhi Jan Chetna Aviyan came with a meeting held in Lachen Mangshila constituency on 4 May at Zilla Bhawan, Mangan and on 11 May at Rongli under Regu constituency.
The meeting of 4 May was presided over by Ms Manita Pradhan, Chairperson to Grievances and Social Services and of 11 May by KB Chamling, area MLA to Regu constituency.
The programme began with introduction of Central Executive members of Cheli Wing of SDF party. Thereafter open discussion-cum-interaction amongst the chelis were held at Mangan meeting, that however could not be held at Rongli against scarcity of time. Ms Sangkipu Lepcha on her part said, people hardly know about Women Commission and stressed the need to have a commission office at Mangan so that people don’t have to travel to Gangtok to settle a simple case either based on domestic violence or else.
She further appreciated the efforts of the state government to bring chelis at par with men in Sikkim. While interacting Ms Lhamu Lepcha said they have been able to stand on their own feet due to the various programmes for the upliftment of chelis that are underway.
A discussion was held as to why it was necessary to have primary membership of the party and it was also felt that it was the responsibilities of the chelis to look after the saplings being planted a year ago under State Green Mission programme.
Speaking at Mangan & Rongli meetings, Ms Rinzing Ongmu said that they have not went there just to deliver speech but to know the problems faced by chelis in rural areas and the developments to be taken up accordingly. She appreciated the overwhelming response of the chelis who came forward and spoke about their problems and difficulties.
Ms Ongmu further highlighted the efforts of SDF government to bring the womenfolk of Sikkim at par with men folk. She said the present government has left no stones unturned in safeguarding the women of Sikkim. “Today the people can come forward and speak about their problems which were a nightmare in previous government”, Ms Ongmu said adding that the respect of chelis that was lost twelve years back has been restored by the present SDF government.
Similarly, Zilla Adhakshya to South Ms Phurmit Lepcha at Mangan emphasized on the developments works being done under the far sightedness of the Chief Minister of Sikkim. She said Sikkim has progressed and keep on with the pace under the leadership of Pawan Chamling.
Ms Manita Thapa speaking on her part at Rongli said, chelis are no more confined to kitchen works prevalent in the past, but because of the present government’s efforts the women folk have now been able to raise their problems and are presently at par with the men folk of Sikkim.
Before conclusion of the meeting, SDF Chief Whip KB Chamling speaking at Rongli said women of Sikkim should feel proud and be grateful to the Chief Minister for decentralising powers to women and offering all rights and privileges without even asking for the same. He said the present position of women in Sikkim in comparison to women 12 years back reflects a drastic change which the women of Sikkim had never even thought of. He thereby requested the women congregation to join hands with the SDF party for their upliftment and development of Sikkim at large.
KB Chamling also appraised of many constructive works carried out in his constituency and thanked the chelis for being supportive & cooperative in all fields and voiced his anticipation that it will be carried further adding that “Politics should be done for human and world”.
Ward level Cheli Morcha Committee comprising of five members from each ward was constituted at Mangan meeting who will be coordinating with the Central Executive Body of the party, the Panchayats or whoever is nearer and bring forward the problems and developments to be carried forward.
The chelis were also asked to come forward in the coming Panchayat elections with vision and such thinking that Sikkim progresses and reaches its peak. Due to scarcity of time and bad weather no interaction and ward level Cheli Morcha could be constituted at Rongli meeting.
