Gujrat extends aid of Rs 2 crore to quake-hit Sikkim

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday sent a cheque of Rs two crore from Chief Minister's Relief Fund to Sikkim government, following the Sunday's devastating earthquake.

"We understand the condition of the people of Sikkim after the massive earthquake," Modi said in a statement today.

"(We) Have sent a cheque for Rs two crore from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to Sikkim CM Pawan Kumar Chamling as a a token financial help," Modi said.

He said Gujarat had developed infrastructure for dealing with natural calamities, and it was ready to help if required.
"Having successfully managed a massive earthquake rehabilitation programme, Gujarat humbly offers its services to Sikkim," Modi said on twitter

Narendra Modi visits Nathu La pass


Gangtok, October 16: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on second day of his Sikkim visit today reached Nathula Pass, the last Indian defense post at the height of 15,000 ft and Nathula Baba Mandir. Modi participated in Diwali celebration of Jawans and offered sweets and a gift on behalf of the people of Gujarat to the soldiers. He was highly impressed with the Jawans posted in the forward areas.

Modi visited a Shahid Smarak that has been built in memory of 27 Indian martyred soldiers who were killed in 1967 by Chinese Army in fencing dispute.

GANGTOK, October 16: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who celebrated first day of year 2009 with Border Security Force jawans in Rann of Kutch and distributed sweets among them, is now ready to spend his Diwali with jawans on China border.Gujrat CM Modi arrived on a four-day visit to Sikkim apparently to relax in the sylvan surroundings of the Himalayan state.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who is on a four day visit of Sikkim arrived in Gangtok yesterday morning and spent his whole afternoon touring the tourism hotspots in and around the Capital.
Mr. Modi’s visit is not official and he had come to Sikkim as a tourist on a holiday, it is informed. He landed at Libing helipad here yesterday morning on a chopper where he was welcomed by the State government authorities who had thrown a blanket security cover for him.
DC (East) D Anandan, SP (East) Dr. MS Tuli and army officials were present to welcome the Gujarat Chief Minister at the helipad.
After resting for some time at a hotel here, Mr. Modi visited Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms where he interacted with the local artistes. He then proceeded towards Ganesh Tok, Himalayan Zoological Park, Tashi View Point, Namgyal Institute of Technology and later in the evening, took a stroll along the beautified MG Marg.
Mr. Modi, however, offered no comments when asked about his feelings on visiting Sikkim for the first time. Instead, he offered a big Namaste to the media.
The Gujarat Chief Minister is scheduled to visit Nathu La border today and will meet Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling in the same evening. He will also be flying to Namchi, the district headquarters of South Sikkim on October 17 where he will visit world tallest statue of Guru Rimpoche at Samdruptse and take a look of the under construction Chaar Dhaam at Solophok.
Mr. Modi is also scheduled to visit the famed Khecheopalri Lake in West Sikkim on the same day before returning to Gangtok.
The itinerary of the Gujarat Chief Minister suggests that he is on a mission to study the tourism assets and growth of Sikkim. Sources inform that he is visiting Sikkim to understand the strides taken by Sikkim in tourism sector.
Mr. Modi is scheduled to return back to Gujarat on October 18.

Gangtok, Oct. 15: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi arrived here today on a brief vacation and spent the day visiting the tourist spots in town.

However, sources in the government said Modi’s schedule suggested that he was on a mission to study the state’s tourism assets and to see how industry had grown in Sikkim.

Senior government officials, including East district collector D. Anandan and police superintendent M.S. Tuli, received Modi, who has come with only an aide, at the Libing helipad where he flew in on a chopper from Bagdogra this morning. A heavy security blanket had been thrown around him.

After taking rest in a hotel, Modi visited the directorate of handloom and handicrafts and interacted with artists. He then drove to the Himalayan Zoological Park, the Tashi View Point and the Namgyal Institute of Technology.

In the evening, the visiting chief minister strolled down MG Marg, shook hands with a few local people and exchanged pleasantries with the bystanders.

“He asked me how I was doing. It was really nice of him,” said Sonam Bhutia, who had come to see the man about “whom she had read so much”.

Modi, however, kept mum when asked what he felt about Sikkim. Instead, he did a namaste to the journalists at MG Marg.

Tomorrow, after a visit to the India-China border at Nathu-la, Modi will meet governor B.P. Singh and chief minister Pawan Chamling. On October 17, he will fly to South and West districts to visit tourist spots before returning to Gangtok.

Modi is scheduled to leave Sikkim on October 18

Gujrat CM Narendra Modi go on Gangtok Sight-Seeing Today



Gangtok, Oct 15 (PTI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today arrived on a three-day visit to Sikkim apparently to relax in the sylvan surroundings of the Himalayan state.

He visited the wildlife park at Bulbuley, Directorate of Handloom and Handicraft at Zero point, Hanuman Tok and Institute of Tibetology Studies at Tadong.

He refused to take questions from mediapersons.

Modi will attend a dinner at Pawan Chamling's residence tomorrow.

Gujrat CM Narendra Modi to visit Sikkim




GANGTOK, October 15: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive to Sikkim for a three day tour of Sikkim to take stock of the tourism growth of this Himalayan State.
According to sources, Mr. Modi is scheduled to arrive tomorrow at Gangtok tomorrow where he will call upon the Governor and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. He is scheduled to visit the Nathu La border on October 16 before visiting some tourism spots in South and West Districts on October 17.
Mr. Modi will be leaving Sikkim on October 18.
It is informed that the Gujarat Chief Minister’s visit taken suddenly and the officials here were intimidated only today afternoon about the visit.
There is no prior agenda or planning attached with his agenda but it is informed that Mr. Modi is keen to learn about the tourism growth of Sikkim.
