2 Sikkim Students drowns in Teesta river

Gangtok, July 24: Two students are suspected to have drowned in the Teesta river near Mamring in South district this afternoon.

Police found the clothes of Mikki Dadul Lepcha, 21, and Binod Prasad, 21, on the riverbank in Mamring around 5pm. “We have recovered clothes and mobile handsets of the two students. It is presumed that they went to swim in the river but nobody has seen them drown. A search operation is on to locate them,” said the subdivisional police officer of Rangpo, R.K. Sundas. While Lepcha, a resident of Mangan in North Sikkim, is a first-year electronics student of the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Prasad, from Majitar, is a student of the Advanced Technical Training Institute at Bardang near Rangpo.
