TIE award bagged by Sikkim entrepreneurs



Gangtok,Nov25 : Four entrepreneurs from the state have received “Emerging and Budding Entrepreneurship Award” from The Indus Entrepreneurship (TIE) in its summit meeting at Kolkata on November 20. Dr. Arjun Adhikari, veterinary and acquacare specialist, Mr. Mani Kumar Pradhan, Managing Director, Sikkim Motor Training Engineering Institute (SMTEI), Mr. Ugen Chopel, Film Maker and Hotelier, Mr. Mohan Pradhan, Florist are the proud entrepreneurs of Sikkim Entrepreneurship Association (SEA) who became first from the state to receive this award.
Mr. Pradhan and Dr. Adhikari told media at Press Club of Sikkim on Tuesday that the award has opened door for every hard working youth of Sikkim to enter the world of self employment and that Sikkim is now exposed to the outer world.
Dr. Adhikari shared his experience of the summit. He said, “We got opportunity to meet people like Sandeep Dipchandani, proprietor of Naukri.Com.” Mr. PD Rai, MP, Lok Sabha, from Sikkim was also present in the summit.
Criteria for this award were generation of local employment, role model for youths, innovation and creativity and revenue generation for the government, which were fulfilled by the four entrepreneurs of Sikkim, Dr. Adhikari said. He said, raw material and market are not enough, hand on knowledge is needed. There are many sectors which Sikkim can explore, he added.
“We are getting full support from the government”, he said, adding, “Awareness and motivation among the youths is the key factor which we want to grow in our youths”. He further said, it is time to think globally - how to go global. He thanked the state government, especially Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling, for IT exemption in the state
