Bear Combing operation in Parakha



GANGTOK, November 21: The State forest department yesterday conducted a full combing operation in Parakha area of East Sikkim where bear menace had been reported recently.
A forest team consisting of wildlife and territorial staff led by DFO (Wildlife, East) Karma Legshey and ACF (Territorial, Pakyong) Rajini Bhandari along with Tekabong outpost police combed the entire area of Tekabong Parakha GPU where the bear had been sighted.
The team found signs of bear presence during the combing operation conducted in the area. The bear had also damaged some crops like squash and ginger of three local farmers - Mahananda Kharel, Suresh Gurung and Kush Narayan Sharma.
The forest team conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the damage and assured compensation to the farmers during a sensitization meeting conducted for the villagers and Panchayat members.
