Chirag United pip Denzong Boys to reach in Gold Cup semifinals

Gangtok , Sept 17:  Chirag United today pipped Denzong Boys 5-4 in a tiebreaker to enter the semifinals of the 31st All India Governor&aposs Gold Cup Football tournament at Paljor stadium yesterday

In a cruel turn of events for the local team which had otherwise played gallantly to advance as far as the quarterfinals of the prestigious tournament, one missed shot from striker Taurus T Manneh in the tiebreaker led to their ouster much to the disappointment of thousands of the local fans.

Manneh&aposs shot hit the bar and bounced out to leave the Denzong boys distraught and out of the tournament.Earlier, both teams played out a scoreless draw till the full time and even the extra time failed to break the deadlock.

In the semi-finals to be played on September 18 next, Chirag United will take on the winners of the quarterfinal tie between Calcutta Port Trust and Covenant FC, Lagos.

In another quarterfinal today, defending champions Three Star, Nepal will be pitted against George Telegraph, Kolkata
