GUWAHATI, Sept 8 – Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leaving for Sikkim tomorrow to take stock of the situation in Sikkim Manipal University in view of the fact that large number of students from the State are studying in the University. Sarma said that safety of the students of Assam in Sikkim is the main concern of the Government of Assam and that is why he has decided to go to Sikkim tomorrow.
Sarma revealed that immediately after hearing the news of disturbance and clashes in the University, he spoke to the Sikkim Chief Secretary and requested him to take care to ensure safety of the students from Assam. “The Chief Secretary of Sikkim assured me that adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure security of the students,” he added.
The Minister said that during his visit he would personally assess whether all the students from Assam are safe and sound. He would also meet Sikkim Chief Minister to request him to take steps to ensure security of the students from Assam in future too
