Helicopter service for Sikkim tourist destinations

5 more helipads for the state

Gangtok, Aug 15 (PTI) With a view to cater to high-end tourists, Sikkim government has decided to launch commercial chopper services to five most frequented destinations in the state, a tourism official said today.

Helipads would be constructed at Rangpo, Mangan, Hiley, Uttarey and Chemchey to run commercial air services upto these destinations, Sikkim tourism secretary Bhaduria said.

The state has a limited air service between Gangtok and Bagdogra with the air carrier Pawan Hans operating its chopper on daily basis between three to six times, Bhaduria said.

The Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) has hired a five-seater Pawan Hans helicopter to provide air service between Gangtok and Bagdogra, the tourism secretary said
