Chamling vacates Namchi-Singhithang, retains Poklok-Kamrang


Gangtok,August13: Ending months of speculation on which one of the two Assembly seats that he will retain, the Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has decided to retain Poklok-Kamrang Assembly seat pave the way for the bye-poll for Namchi-Singhithang seat to be held on September 10 next.

Keeping the media and political adversaries guessing for past three months on his decision on retaining one of the two Assembly seats, Chamling recently intimated the state election office his decision to vacate Namchi-Singhithang seat, the by-poll for which will be held on September 10 next, according to the Election Commission notification.
The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) President had won from both Namchi-Singhithang and Poklok-Kamrang seats by massive margins garnering 80 per cent of the votes polled in the Assembly polls held in April this year.

Meanwhile, the model code of conduct has come into force in South Sikkim with immediate effect after announcement of the bye-poll date for Namchi-Singhithang Assembly seat, the state election office said.
