NRT reaches quarterfinals of Sikkim Governor's Gold Cup

GANGTOK, November 1: NRT Nepal beat JCT (Academy) Phagwara by a 2-1 margin to reach the quarterfinals of the Governor's Gold Cup in Gangtok today. In another match, the Nigerian Eagles got the better of Chittagoan Abahoni Bangladesh with two goals against one to reach the semis. In the earlier match, which would have been a draw with the two teams at one goal each Anil Gurung from NRT Nepal scored when the game was 34 minutes old, but was equalled by L Lima from JCT (Academy) Phagwara hit the net at the 55th minute of the second half. Anil Gurung of the NRT Nepal shot the golden goal in 21st minute of the 30 minutes added time and won the game for his team. More than 5,000 strong supporters gathered to witness the first match expecting a brilliant match and NRT Nepal lived up to their expectations. However, both teams drew much applause from the crowds and was cheered on with much enthusiasm .In the second match, Freeman Egbum from Nigerian Eagles scored in the 4th minute of the game, which was evened by Chittagoan Abahoni Bangladesh with a single goal by Liton in the 65th minute in the second half of the match. The Nigerians came back strong with Nkenchor Feauji scoring in 75th minute of second half Al Amin from Chittagoan Abahoni Bangladesh and Akiojano Felix and Agu Innocent from Nigerian Eagles were warned with yellow cards in the match. "This time we have 100% confident to take the cup this year but we have not taken any match linearly as we working hard," said a team coach Mr Fuja Tope. "Today our team had played satisfactory so I hope the best in another match too," he added.
