STATE POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD CHECK ON INDUSTRIAL UNITS

GANGTOK, October 5: A team headed by CC Shangdarpa, Chairperson, State Land Use & Environment Board, along with the Member-Secretary, Slate Pollution Control Board, Sikkim TD Rai and Dr. Gopal Pradhan, Chief Scientist, State Pollution Control Board visited different industrial units located in and around Rangpo on September 27.
The visit covered seven units which included- Sheela Foam Pvt Ltd, Bagey Khola; Zydus Health Care, Bagey Khola; Himalaya Distilleries Ltd, Mazitar; Mount Distilleries Ltd, Mazitar; Sikkim Distillries Ltd, Rangpo; CG Foods Pvt. Ltd. Mining and Akshay Ispat & Ferro Alloys Pvt. Ltd.
During the visit, an interactive session was held with the management officials of all the units visited. While emphasizing on the need to have a clean working environment, Ms. Shangdarpa directed the units to adopt possible means to prevent, abate and control all forms of pollution. She was critical about the safety of the people who were employed by the units.
While focusing on the problem of unemployment in the State, the Chairperson directed the management of the industrial units visited to provide employment to the local unemployed educated youth as per their qualification and experience. She also sought the cooperation of all the industrial units in providing employment in all forms of work, unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled or administrative. The Pollution Control Board Officials were instructed to conduct regular monitoring of environmental quality of the units and provide them necessary guidance and assess the compliance of the conditions stipulated by the State Pollution Control Board
