GANGTOK, October 09: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today expressed best wishes for all the candidates who were elected uncontested in the ensuing Panchayat poll.

“I salute all those who withdrew their nominations from the Panchayat poll. It reflects they are the true party cadre and will always be honored,” Mr. Chamling remarked while addressing the huge gathering of party workers here at SDF Bhawan.During the meeting, the chief minister who is also the Sikkim Democratic Front party president also released a twenty nine paged party manifesto for the Panchayat elections.

Stating that the manifesto is a promise and commitment towards the people of Sikkim for bringing more prosperity and development he said, sixty percent of uncontested scenario itself reflects how much people love the SDF party. “The remaining forty percent will definitely be our victory,” he added.

“While you appeal votes from the public, do not make it individually based but ask for the symbol of the party,” Mr. Chamling urged the contesting candidates.

Expressing his best wishes for the uncontested candidates he reminded that panchayat plays a very important and vital role, especially in the grass root level of the society. “Panchayats plays a crucial role in developing a society and so service to the human kind should come right from the core of the heart,” he added. He further stressed that the Panchayats should now work for the people with a renewed pace rather than fulfilling one’s own interests, vested interests, etc.

Expressing his wonder over the independent nominations by the candidates who failed to get a SDF party ticket, he said this: “This shows people still need to learn more about the democratic set up in Sikkim.”
He too informed about the various incidents where the “reactionaries” are threatening the innocent people. “We shall continue our development and will pay no heed to those comments which are against the welfare of the people of Sikkim,” the chief minister said.

In the twenty nine paged party manifesto containing seventy five points, the major points apart from development policies stresses on the Gram Sabha’s inclusive, transparent, and responsible nature. The manifesto also says that the people will have a power to reject the decisions of the Gram Sabha with increased participation of women in Panchayats.
