Gangtok, October 27 : JCT Academy, Phagwara, defeated the home team SFA XI 3-1 in the inaugural match of the 29th All India Governor's Gold Cup football tournament at Paljor Stadium here today.Jagpreet Singh from JCT scored a brace, both from free kicks in the 6th and 29th minutes, while his teammate L Zira buttressed the lead in the 59th minute.
Dawa Lepcha managed to score a consolation goal for the home team in the 71st minute.Though the score line read 3-1, the game was a thrilling encounter with both teams evenly matched. SFA XI strikers came close to scoring on several occasions but were denied by the JCT goalie. With this, the home team had been knocked out of the tournament, while JCT will face NRT Football Club from Nepal on October 1.Assam State Electricity Board would take on Punjab Police tomorrow
