Sincere, dedicated and honest people with a vision will be given party tickets: CM
GANGTOK, September 12: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling declared that there will be 891 seats in total for the upcoming Panchayat elections.
Addressing a huge gathering during the Panchayat Sammelan today here at the Paljor Namgyal Indoor Gymnasium hall, Mr. Chamling repeated that within the reservation, 40% seats will be reserved for the women and 7% for the Scheduled Caste in both the Zilla panchayat and the general Panchayat elections.
“Sincere, dedicated and honest people with a vision will be given tickets this time for the Panchayat election,” he said adding “People’s development is our first priority and we have always adhered to it.”
Talking regarding the power decentralization, the chief minister said the main focus of the power decentralization is to empower the people of the grass root level both economically and socially. Stating that the government is in persistent effort to secure the people of Sikkim he said that until and unless the people doesn’t come forward with an instinct of self development the vision of the new and prosperous Sikkim will be never accomplished.
“It is our effort that we provided 40 percent seat reservation for Panchayats for the ensuing elections,” Mr. Chamling informed. He too informed that the reservation is both for the Zilla Panchayat elections as well as for the General Panchayat election.
It was also informed that the road of 400km under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) will be constructed in the nook and corners of the state.
The Panchayat Puraskar for 2007 was conferred to Tshering Lepcha, North Sikkim, Pushpalal Upreti, East Sikkim, Ganesh Kumar Rai, South Sikkim and Nima Tashi Lepcha of West Sikkim. The awardees were given away cash award of Rs 10,000 each along with a letter of appreciation.
Likewise, the Zilla Panchayat Award was conferred to Tshering Lepcha, North Sikkim, Premson Bhutia, East Sikkim, Hari Krishna Sharma, South Sikkim and Sobha Rai of West Sikkim.
Santanang Gram Panchayat Unit, Namli GPU, Sorok Sampani GPU and Siagthang GPU were identified as the best performing GPUs in the four districts.
The state Rural Management and Development Department also felicitated the chief minister for marking Sikkim in the third position in the entire country in terms of Rural Management Department.
