Sikkim Tourism Minister to Go Japan


Gangtok september7,2007: To project Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage in the international market and attract japanese tourists, the state tourism minister R.B.Subba accompanied by GP Upadhyaya, Commissioner-cum-secretary , department of tourism,government of Sikkim next week go to Tokyo to participate in a world travel fare to woo tourists from Buddhist countries, particularly Japan.
The Indian ministry of tourism will organise a road show and a seminar with FICCI on the sidelines of the fare to showcase its tourism products to tour operators in Japan.
Sikkim wants to use the opportunity for aggressive marketing of its ‘Buddhist circuit’ in Tokyo, said R.B.Subba in ameeting organised by Sikkim Association of Adventure Tours Operator (SAATO) in Gangtok yesterday.The Chief Guest in his speech said that Sikkim is emerging as the new Tourist destination in India and further added that Tourism is the main Industry in Sikkim and has been blessed with a natural beauty. Outlining this, he said only 12% of the Land is cultiviable in Sikkim, rest are covered with glaciers, flora and fauna .The tourism minister also appreciated efforts of SAATO delegation which has returned after conducting Sikkim Promotional tour in Thailand,Singapore and Malaysia.
