Sikkim Teachers Gets Teacher's Day Gift from Chief Minister Dr. Chamling

Gangtok,Sep 05 :Sikkim Chief Minister Dr. Chamling today extended his warm greetings to the teaching fraternity on the occasion of Teacher's Day.In a meeting held at Chintan Bhawan,Gangtok to mark the occasion, Dr. Chamling called upon teaching community of Sikkim to prepare students of today to face challenges of tomorrow .He asked them to devote themselves in all earnest to their noble profession of teaching in building confident and aware citizens out of students under them. Dr. Chamling announced that on today's special day a special gift for all teachers of Sikkim by extending their retirement age from 58 to 60 years as they plays a very important and special role in development of Sikkim.CM further announced upgrading salaries to teachers at earliest.
“My vision is to make every individual literate in the State, for which my Government has prioritized the education sector. The rapidly increasing number of students and schools are the living examples of education boom in the State,” he said.
He also informed about the new policy of the Government for the teachers according to which the untrained teachers will get an official leave to complete their trainings on TTI and BEd. He also announced of increasing the numbers of State and commendations awards from next year.
He urged the teachers to make all out efforts to infuse the noble qualities of discipline, righteousness, truthfulness, sense of integrity, high character and dedication amongst the students besides imparting value-based education to enable the students to become ideal citizens of society. In a message on Teacher's Day, the Chief Minister pointed out that that this important day coincides with the birth anniversary of former President of India the late Dr Sarvpalli Radha Krishnan, an eminent academician, statesman and a great philosopher whose contribution in various fields especially in restructuring the education system was unparalleled and unprecedented.
Dr. Pawan Chamling also impressed upon the teachers to rise to the occasion to prepare the present and future generations to enable them to successfully face the challenges emerging in the present globalised society. He assured the teachers that the government was making concerted efforts to create a congenial atmosphere to enable them to discharge their duties in an efficiently manner.

Appreciating the fact that Sikkim was one of the fortunate States among other 16 others to have the Sikkim Central University, Mr. Chamling said that none applauded this achievement of the Government.
He described the setting up of Sikkim Central University in state as a milestone and historical achievement in field of education.He urged all in contributing in making Sikkim University as important educational center as world famous Universities of Oxford,Harvard, or Geneva. He said it would be his endeavour to build newly sanctioned Sikkim University on similar parameters as those of world institutions as he mentioned above.
“We want the intellectuals to create an opinion poll and discuss the propaganda as how Sikkim can be made more developed and flourished’, the Chief Minister said.
He also expressed his concern and worry over the number of associations formed according to caste in various schools and colleges. ‘My vision is to unify all the people of Sikkim, not to break in the name of caste and creed,” he said.
further, he informed that campaign of some political elements in spreading information that hydel projects in Sikkim would result in damaging environment of Sikkim at massive scale as wrong and deliberate one. He assured all that hydel projects in Sikkim would be more of benefits and advantage to people of state than otherwise as being portrayed by ACT hunger strike.
On the occasion of Teacher's day,Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling gave away State Teachers awards to 8 teachers from different schools which carried a citation with cash component of Rs.15,000/- each. 15 teachers were awarded Special appreciation awards which included citation and cash award of Rs.5000/-each. He further gave cash awards of Rs.2000/-each to Schools achieving high level of activities in Sikkim Green Mission from all the districts of state.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Mahendra P Lama, the new Vice Chancellor of Sikkim Central University emphasized that the State getting a Central University was one of the rarest achievements. Dr. Lama said that the University would not only ensure quality education for students from the State but also for the students from outside as well. “It is time to focus on the education system in Sikkim and bring in some radical changes, which is the need of an hour,” he added.
The executive members of the Sikkim United Teacher’s Welfare Association and Sikkim Teacher’s Association felicitated the Chief Minister during the function.
Secretary education Shri Adhikari read out message of President of India to teachers on occasion.Many other teachers also spoke on the day and its importance .
