Gangtok,September 11: The Chief Minister of Sikkim Dr.Pawan Chamling has inaugurated "East Zilla Panchayat Bhawan " in Gangtok today.In his inaugural address, the Chief minsiter expressed his happiness for being able to make Sikkim achieve milestone of becoming firststate to grant 40 % reservation to women at the Panchayat level.Dr. Pawan Chamling called upon women of Sikkim to come forward to take maximum advantage of 40% quota reserved for them at Panchayat level for building better leadership at the grass root level. Chief Minister also spoke of initiative of power decentralisation at all levels and also that Panchayats should have financial independence to implement projects.
The East Zilla Panchayat inaugurated by Dr. Chamling has been completed with in a period of 6 months and 2700 sq.mt. building have 3 floors and have been build at the costs of Rs.85 lakhs and provides all modern amenities for office building.The inaugural programme was attended by Ministers,MLAs and Zilla Panchayat & Panchayat members who are in capital to attend All Sikkim Panchayat Sammelan scheduled to be held tomorrow at indoor Palzor Stadium in the morning 10AM.
