Sikkim Chief Minister held an HoD's meeting


Gangtok,Sept11: The Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling held a review meeting with heads of departments at Tashiling Conference hall to assess the situation emerging from more than two weeks of break-down of national highway connecting Sikkim to rest of Country and also the ongoing onslaught on landslides due to torrential rains especially in south and west districts. The Chief Minister directed all the heads of department to utilise all the available labour and resources to make sure average Sikkimese affected by situation have access to all the help from state government. Chief Minister directed if need arise to cope up emergency situations funds from natural calamities can be used and help from army or civil forces can be called upon. Chief Minister directed that all efforts should be done to arrange adequate stock of rice,LPG, and other essential items. He directed Power Secretary to urgently restore power supplies in West districts and all damaged electric poles in Damathang areas are replaced on war footing. Chief Minister Dr. Chamling issued a call to the public for sustained efforts to keep State-wide total sanitation .He urged all local self-government institutions to assume leadership of the campaign and to implement solid waste management schemes in a time-bound manner.
Chief Minister also directed to all District Collectors that houses impacted by heavy rain and prone to landslide or landslips are immediately evacuated and alternative housing to the affected families are provided.

Chief Minister directed all damaged roads should be repaired on emergency basis .He directed that a retention wall should be build for road near Singtam as it is likely to collapse.

Secretary Food and Supplies Nari Tshering informed that there is adequate stock of rice and 5 trucks of LPG and Petrol /Diesel have reached Sikkim today only and Adequate supply of LPG for West Sikkim is being sent tomorrow.

Labour Secretary said that National Highway 31 A would be open by tomorrow and small Vehicles and Trucks up to 8 MT would be allowed to run only.
