SIKKIM CHIEF MINISTER DR. CHAMLING URGES EMPLOYEES FOR SINCERITY AND LOYALTY

Gangtok, September 14: The Chief Minister, Dr. Pawan Chamling has urged the Government employees to work for the common interest of Sikkim and people of Sikkim and be sincere and loyal to their duties and responsibilities. Laying stress on the need to maintain transparencies in everything from interviews for govt. jobs to tenders for public works the Chief Minister said that all the decisions made in various official meetings should be carried out faithfully and well within the stipulated time. The Chief Minister said this during a review meeting he had with the Heads of various departments on September 11 at the Tashiling Secretariat Conference Hall which was attended among others by the Chief Secretary, DGP, Additional C.S., Development Commissioner, Home Secretary and other senior officers.During the meeting, the Chief Minister opined that one of the main reasons of frequent landslides in the State is man-made as the loose soil dumped haphazardly during various constructions comes down at the advent of monsoon and cause landslides. He asked the concerned department to put strict ban on dumping of loose soil in areas other than designated places. The Chief Minister also asked the HODs to lay stress on preventive measures and come up with comprehensive plans for permanent solution of damaged projects, be it roads & bridges or power or any structure rather than proposing a temporary restoration work so that recurring expenditures could be saved. He also felt it necessary for the concerned departments to show little concern in the works already implemented by regular inspection rather than leaving them at the mercy of their fates.Roads and Bridges department was also asked to urgently repair the roads near the Palace Gate and near Singtam bridge besides few other State feeder roads which are in dilapidated conditions.
