Sikkim bags Tourism Ministry award


Sikkim has been awarded the Platinum Award for Most Picturesque Destination. The award was received by G P Upadhyaya, Commissioner-cum-secretary of the Sikkim government’s tourism department. The Union Tourism Minister, Ambika Soni, made a special mention of Sikkim for doing so well in promoting tourism as well as preserving nature. Over the last few years, the tourism sector in the state has enjoyed an unprecedented boom, with an annual growth rate of almost 15%. Sikkim’s share of foreign tourist arrivals has also escalated to 18,000. Moreover, the tourism sector generated total indirect revenues of Rs 112 crore for the state in the last fiscal year.
