Gangtok, September 4: The Food and Nutrition Board, Department of Women and Child Development, Government of India, Gangtok, is celebrating the National Nutrition Week from September 1 to 7, in cooperation with various Central and State Government departments and NGOs. The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Nutrition promotion for a stronger nation’.
The week long National Nutrition Week began with a workshop on 1st September, 2007 in Gangtok with the theme "Nutrition Promotion for a Stronger Nation". The programme was chaired by Special Secretary, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of Sikkim, A K Chettri. Addressing the session Senior Medical Officer, STNM Hospital, Dr M Lepcha stressed upon the different types of mal-nutrition problems among children and adolescence there by affecting the health of children leading to other problems. Joint Secretary, Food & Civil Supplies Department, Government of Sikkim, K K Kafley said, nutrition awareness camps should be organised often so as to increase the knowledge among mothers. Joint Director Nutrition Cell, Government of Sikkim, J K Diyali explained the importance of supplementary nutrition feeding programmes though ICDS and Aganwadi workers among infants, children, pregnant and nursing mothers. The week long programme is being organised by the Food and Nutrition Board, CFNEU, Government of India Ministry of Women and child Development in assistance with Social Justice, Empowerment and Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim.
