GANGTOK OBSERVES JANMASTAMI WITH POMP AND DEVOTION


THAKURBARI TO DEPICT A TABLEAU ON THE LIFE OF LORD KRISHNA TODAY

GANGTOK, September 03-04: On the occasion of Janmastami, the committee members of Tadong Saraswati Mandir organized a Kalash Yatra today morning from MG Marg to Saraswati Mandir, Tadong.
The second day of the celebration, which will be held at Thakurbari Mandir, MG Marg will depict a tableau on the life of Lord Krishna followed by Bhajan Sandhya which will be performed by the singers from Sikkim and Darjeeling and Janmotsav at Midnight.
Lord Krishna was born at midnight therefore a 24-hour fest is observed on this day which is broken at midnight.
The birthday of Lord Krishna falls on the 8th day of the dark half of the month of Bharapada (August-September) 5,172 years ago (3227 BC) and is considered as one of the greatest Hindu festivals in India
During this festival temples are decorated, Kirtans and Bhajans are sung, bells are rung, the conch is blown and Sanskrit hymns are recited in praise of Lord Krishna.
At Mathura, the birth place of Lord Krishna special spiritual gathering are organized at this time. Pilgrims from all over the India attend this festive gathering.
