SOUTH DISTRICT CHELIS PROTEST AGAINST EFFIGY BURNING INCIDENCES
NAMCHI, August 10: Following the incidences of effigy burning of the Governor and that of the Chief Minister, different women’s organisations of the South District today placed a memorandum in the office of the Additional District Collector, South.
The memorandum was signed by 47 women representatives of different NGOs and other organisations and Self Help Groups.
The memorandum described the burning of the Governor’s effigy as anti-constitutional and anti -social and at the same time described the activities of ACT and SAFE as anti-social and “an obstacle in the various developmental aspects of the State.”
The memorandum also mentioned the activities of ACT and SAFE as the catalyst in provoking the emotion of the people of the State and also encouraging communal disharmony in the state. Through the same memorandum, they have also protested the burning of the Chief Minister’s effigy and also the circulation of pamphlets in the State. They have asked the DC’s office to intervene and control such “unlawful” activities in the South District.
In return the ADC South has assured them of strict supervision against such activities.
