Sikkim Minister G.M Gurung Attends ICOM-2007 in Austria

Gangtok:, 22 August : Shri G.M Gurung ,Minister of Cultural Affairs & Heritage and Human Resource Development Department and Shri S.D. Dhakal Additional Secretary, Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department, Government of Sikkim attended the opening ceremony of the General Assembly and the general conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) at Vienna ,Austria,on 19th August 2007. The general conference will be concluded on 24th August and the assembly is being closed on 25 th August 2007. The ICOM after offering the membership to the participating team from Sikkim Invited to attend the Conference and the General Assembly at Vienna,by the Mr.Armin Wehdorn,Chairman of the Organising Committee who is also the member of the ICOM Austria National Committee. The visiting Minister and the Official was welcomed by the President and the Secretary of the ICOM in the conference and the General Assembly on 19th August. During the General Conference , ICOM will present the initiative to forge the "Universal Heritage" to create new long-term relationship between the social stakeholders on the conservation of Heritage and the Public Institutions. It may be recalled that the ICOM Secretariat,in conjunction with the relevant International and National Committees is currently developing projects on Capacity Building by supporting and promoting professional training as their primary objectives. The another important theme of the ICOM is to give "Recognition of the intellectual,cultural and social diversity and respect for the difference as forces for cross-cultural understanding and social cohesion". The Honble Minister and the Official participate in the different sessions of discussion and deliberation in the conference and the Assembly.
