Press Club of Sikkim Opens a Library in State Jail

15 August Celebrated by Inmates of Rongyek Jail,Gangtok


Gangtok: The press club of Sikkim celebrated the spirit of 60th India's Indpendence day by launching a library within the premises of Rongyek Jail of Gangtok to enable the inmates of Jail an opportunity to devote their time with books placed in the Library.
The jail inmates of State Jail, Rongey celebrated 60th anniversary of Independence day here with great zest and zeal presenting colourful programmes including patriotic songs. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Shri D.Dadul and Guest of honour was Shri C.D. Rai, the President of Press club of Sikkim. While welcoming the guests and hightlighting the occasion, Superintendent (Jail) Shri Y.T. Bhutia said that the main task of the authority of jail is to reform them too. He informed that various initiatives of reformation have been started by engaging the jail mates in various creative work like carpentry, sewing and stitching etc. and urged the audience to give them encouragement by purchasing their products.
Chief Guest D. Dadul appreciated the performance of cultural programme displayed by the jail inmate artists and wished that every inmates while completing their term can go to the society in a better and reformed way of life.
Shri C.D. Rai, Guest of honour assured to supply one Nepali daily and one English daily newspapers regularly to jail inmates and if they are interest to further their education, he assured to supply the text books too.
Earlier, Chief Guest Shri D.Dadul inaugurated the library presented by Press Club of Sikkim to jail inmates while Shri C.D. Rai inaugurated the Sales counter of jail inmates about their products.
