Limboo culture displayed in Sikkim


THARPU (West Sikkim), Aug 24: Over 5,000 people, including villagers and state government officials assembled here today to celebrate the 27th foundation day of Sirijunga Yakthung Sakthim Phojumbo. The programme was organised by members of the Sirijunga Limboo Cultural Society. Locals performed traditional dances and actively took part in other cultural programmes on the occasion. According to the organisers, today’s programme was aimed at preserving the Limboo tradition and culture. Guest artistes from Darjeeling performed Kawari Nitya and Nepali Lok dance. Nasaan, a book written in Limboo language by Mrs Kamala Subba was inaugurated by the chief guest and state minister Mr RB Subba. People from Soreng, Hee-Gaon, Sombarey, Gangtok, Geyzing and Jorethang took part in the cultural programme which was judged by four local judges. “We organise this function every year to boost our tradition and culture,” said Mr RB Subba, state tourism minister. He added that they want tourists to know about our culture and tradition. “We are planning to offer village food, home stay with colorful traditional function every evening to the tourists. We will soon take the tourists to Sombarey, Daramdin, Jurelee Dara and Barsey,” he added.
