GANGTOK DC TELLS SHRP SUPPORTERS TRY COURT & POLICE THANA


SHRP SUPPORTERS DEMONSTRATE IN FRONT OF DISTRICT COLLECTORATE; DEMAND RELEASE OF ALL ARRESTED OPP SUPPORTERS

GANGTOK, August 09: Following the arrest of its party supporters yesterday, the Sikkim Himali Rajya (SHRP) Party today held a demonstration in front of the District Collectorate here at Sichey.
The demonstration was carried out by about 30 supporters by holding placards and shouting slogans. It was carried under the leadership of Kesang Sherpa, General Secretary SHRP.
The SHRP decided on the demonstration when they were not permitted by the District Collectorate to hold a public rally in and around Gangtok.
Vishal Chauhan, DC, East said that the office was not ready to give permission in an hour’s time citing that the office had laws for maintaining public peace and security. “Nobody has the right to demonstrate without permission from the concerned authority and if anybody is found doing without permission than we will take action against them,” he added.
Talking to a reporter of a local newspaper, Mr. Sherpa said that they have organised the rally for demanding the release of all the Congress supporters along with nine SHRP party supporters who were arrested yesterday by Sikkim Police.
Stating that Sikkim Police has still not arrested the accused behind the murder of one of the supporters of SHRP on July 13, Mr. Sherpa added that the Police have not properly done the investigation. He also said that the state government should give the people of Dzongu their rights and demands fulfilled.
Puskar Subba, one of the party supporters alleged that Sikkim lacks democracy and questioned whether it is right on the part of the government to torture or arrest a person when he try to voice for their rights.
Sikkim Police had arrested 9 supporters affiliated with the SHRP from Deorali Bazaar yesterday on charges of causing nuisance at public place and obstruction at National Highway 31-A.
They were booked under section 34 of IPC and were produce in front of Judicial Magistrate today and later sent for three days judicial custody at Rongnyek Jail
