SIKKIM TO HOST TRAVELLING FILM SOUTH ASIA 2007

GANGTOK: Here is some good news for movie buffs. Gangtok will play host to some outstanding South Asian documentaries for the first time ever in Sikkim.
The Travelling Film South Asia 2007 Documentary Film Festival will be held here July 6- July 15, brought to you by Rachna Books here in Gangtok.
The "Travelling Film South Asia" was started by the reputed Himal Association from Nepal which has been offering a platform for documentary filmmakers and their audience to meet under a common roof since 1997. Over the years, the Travelling Film South Asia has come to be a tradition that is reckoned the world over for the outstanding films it showcases.
This travelling festival in Gangtok will feature 15 outstanding documentaries to come out of South Asia in the last two years. These films have travelled all over the world, giving audiences far removed from each other an opportunity to sample an exciting range of topics and themes, presentation styles and techniques.
Raman Shrestha, proprietor of Rachna Books and the organiser of this festival says that Sikkim has never had a documentary film festival before. “As an organiser for Travelling Film South Asia in Sikkim, I hope that this festival will highlight the possibilities of the ever accessible and affordably technology to the youth here. This, in turn could turn more and more youngsters to take up film-making as a medium to highlight the issues that concern South Asia at large. Besides offering an insight into an alternative career options, I feel that a greater understanding of one's region also empowers our youth to be a more knowledgeable global citizen that our circumstances necessitates us to strive to be.”
The venue of the festival will be the first floor of Rachna Books at development Area here where a medium sized audio-visual hall has been opened up for hosting such events.
