NAMCHI ACCIDENT-UTILITY VEHICLE CRASH INTO VAN



7 INJURED IN NAMCHI ACCIDENT

NAMCHI, June 21: Seven people were injured in an accident involving a utility vehicle and a Maruti Van at Mandir area, above Namchi Bazaar, here today.
The utility vehicle, SK-03/ 2836, loaded with 40 cft wood topple over a Maruti van bearing the number SK-04/ 6881, while on its way from Damthang to Tinzir.
The Maruti van was parked in front of a motor servicing garage and the motor mechanic was reportedly repairing the van when the utility vehicle carrying with the load including 5 persons lost control injuring both the motor mechanic and driver of the van and five others.
The Maruti Van is owned by Tashi Bhutia, Panchayat member, Ghurpisey. The utility van was alleged to be driven by the handyboy and the driver was unaware of that. The handyboy driving the utility vehicle is Barnabas Lepcha, a resident of Turuk, presently staying at Ghurpisey.
Among the seven injured, four were admitted to Namchi Hospital with severe injuries where one is in a critical condition. The case was registered under Section 279, 337, 338, 427 of IPC at the Namchi PS, and the handy boy is presently in police custody.
