DEPARTMENTAL ACTION AGAINST THREE POLICEMEN

GANGTOK: Public servants mingling with political outfits led to a disciplinary proceeding against L/NK 1647 Kharga Singh Gurung of Reserve Lines of the Sikkim Police on May 17 following orders from BK Roka, DIGP/ Lines under Rule 7 of the Sikkim Police Force (Discipline & Appeal) Rules 1989. He,as per information from senior police officials, was suspended essentially for indulging in party politics in contravention of govt.service rules that he is required to abide by.Mr.KS Gurung used to attend SHRPmeetings on a regularbasis and final straw against LanceNaik Gurung was provided when he stood surety of SHRP members in Court.
However, police sources today informed that other than Kharga Singh Gurung, other two police men Prakash Rai, Constable to Kewzing out post in South Sikkim and Govardan Chettri, Constable to IRB were also suspended on the same grounds.
As for Kharga Singh Gurung, the DIGP- Lines BK Roka exercised power conferred by sub rule (1) of Rule 10 of the Sikkim Police Force (Discipline & Appeal) Rule 1989 suspending L/NK 1647 Kharga Singh Gurung with immediate effect. During the period Gurung was also directed not to leave the Reserve Lines, Police Headquarters, Gangtok without prior permission of the DIGP/ Lines.
Kharga Singh Gurung, who was recently transferred to the Reserve Lines from Special Branch Gangtok, was learnt to have submitted his resignation to the department. As departmental enquiry on the three Sikkim police personnel are on the anvil, the Police Department reportedly made no response against the offer of resignation from Kharga Singh Gurung.
